Cheap vs Affordable

Cheap DJ Service Vs Affordable Quality DJ Service

When shopping for a DJ Service don't let the price be your main objective. There are many reasons why some services are offered at what seems like an incredibly low price, some of those reasons are: No business license, No Liability Insurance, No industry affiliations, No back-up equipment, No back-up personnel, equipment not meant for commercial use, limited or no experience, etc, etc. Take a close look at their marketing materials; business cards, brochures, letterhead, envelopes and professional appearance in general. You only get one shot at making a first impression, if no effort is made to impress you in securing your business, you may be in for a disappointment on the day of the reception.

Make sure that you are receiving quality service at an affordable price. Not just a cheap price because the vendor you are dealing with doesn't have any overhead, and is only DJ'ing as a hobby on the side. Ask for at least a couple of letters of reference, and ask about the kind of equipment they use (some professional/commercial brands are: Mackie Speakers and Mixers, JBL Speakers, Shure, Audio-Technica, Microphones, LED American DJ Specialty Lights for the dance floor, Stanton, Numark, and American Audio CD Players and Mixers. There are other brands but this is a good start. Be sure to ask how long the company has been in business and how many events they perform at per year. Ask them what might happen if one of their amplifiers, or speakers break down (will your reception be over or how long will it be down until the replacement equipment will arrive).

Things to look for in a contract. The customer's name and address; The venue's address (celebration site); The vendor's name, address, telephone, fax, email, and cell phone number if at all possible; Day and date of the event, start and end time of the event. The vendor's arrival time to set-up (should be at least one hour before scheduled start time). The contract should also address the availability of additional hours past the contracted time and the rate per hour. The contract should disclose the "Cancelation Policy," the amount of deposit required and balance due date. What the remedy might be if the vendor is unable to perform on the day of the event. Any special requirements by the vendor or the customer should also be addressed: (example) Customer requires and requested a wireless microphone (charge if any), the vendor requires a banquet table to set up equipment, etc.

There are so many aspects to a wedding ceremony and reception that most people don't even consider or bother with, and they really shouldn't have to, if they hire the right vendor. Most people only get married once in a lifetime, and shouldn't have to learn all about wedding receptions the hard, and costly way. Ask your entertainment vendor to assist in drafting the event timeline, and to coordinate with the other vendors for best results.
